Girod features a distinctive clay-mining landscape: the municipality’s clay deposits are connected to the ongoing stepped open-cast mining of Westerwald clay, known locally as the region’s “white gold”. Culture and History
The municipality of Girod includes historic churches in Girod and Kleinholbach. St. James’s Church in Girod was rebuilt in 1786 on the site of an earlier chapel. Today’s St. Peter and Paul Chapel in Kleinholbach was built in 1771.
The Eisenbach flows through Girod and Kleinholbach and is depicted in the local coat of arms. Five historically known mills are still known along the stream: Schultheißenmühle, Struthmühle, Dollmühle, Michelmühle and Freimühle. Some of them have been partially preserved.
