Culture

St. Nicholas Church is the historic center of Gees. It has been documented since 1580 and preserves its former east tower, to which a new building was added in 1904.

Gees preserves the winter-expulsion custom of Scheiwe Sonndesch. As part of the tradition, a burning wheel wrapped in straw is rolled down the Baarlay after dark. The custom takes place on the first weekend after Carnival.

Getting There

The route to the spring leads from Gerolstein via the B410 toward Pelm and then via the K33 to Gees. A parking area is indicated near the fire station at the “Zum Drees” sign; from there, a footpath leads to the spring.
