Bleckhausen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

St. Anthony's Church, built in 1787, stands in the center of Bleckhausen. Its peal comprises six bells. Two of them date from 1394 and are described as the oldest bronze-ribbed bells in the Eifel within the Diocese of Trier; another bell in Gillenfeld also dates from that year.

Culture and History

St. Anthony's Church is described as a hall church built in 1787 and was extended in 1846. The tower and side extensions were added after 1945. Bleckhausen's religious traditions include an annual pilgrimage to Klausen.

A fountain house opposite Brunnenstraße 2a is described as probably dating from the 19th century. The former school at Brunnenstraße 5a is a partly slated building with a hipped roof and is described as probably dating from 1843. A sandstone shaft cross at the intersection of Hauptstraße and Auf der Held is dated 1810. Southwest of Bleckhausen on the Kleine Kyll lies Bleckhausen Mill, a grain mill dating from 1799.

Nature

Bleckhausen lies in the heart of the Vulkaneifel Nature and Geopark.

The HeimatSpur Wacholder-Kyll-Weg trail starts and ends at the church in Bleckhausen. The Wacholder-Kyll-Weg begins in the center of Bleckhausen and runs mainly through woodland, including the protected juniper heath. At Fuchskopf there is a viewpoint overlooking the valley of the Kleine Kyll; a rest area with carved wooden animals explains the local wildlife.

From Bleckhausen, the route leads through the nearby juniper conservation area, through a section of the Trombachtal valley, and across meadows and fields before returning to the starting point. Parking for the Wacholder-Kyll-Weg is available at the church or at the hiking car park on the L46 at the edge of the village toward Manderscheid.
