Nature

The Altschlossfelsen forms a sandstone reef around 1.3 kilometers long, described as the longest in the Palatinate. The Altschlosspfad trail leads to the Quellbäche des Eppenbrunner Baches nature reserve in the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve. At the same time, it is a 10-kilometer premium trail to the Altschlossfelsen and a family-friendly hiking trail along the German-French border.

Culture

Historical traces are also part of the townscape. The image of Diana carved into the rock commemorates the Roman passage through the area. In 1991, the Altschlossfelsen was placed under heritage protection as a valuable cultural monument. One section of the Altschlosspfad is signposted as the Way of St. James and forms part of a medieval pilgrimage route.

Hiking and Activities

The Eppenbrunn Border Trail is an approximately 12-kilometer circular route from Spießweiher to the Altschlossfelsen along the German-French border. The Eulenfels Tour leads to a sandstone formation with views across the Palatinate Forest as far as Götzenbruck in France.

The local recreational offering includes Eppenbrunn Leisure Park with a playground, sports equipment, and a Kneipp facility. A local provider offers donkey hikes around Eppenbrunn with trained donkeys; this includes an introduction to leading, saddling, packing, and handling the animals. Adventure Golfpark Eppenbrunn has twelve holes.
