Nature

The Rimbach-Steig is a premium hiking trail in the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve. It starts at the car park on the main road at the exit from Darstein towards Vorderweidenthal and runs along ridgelines around Darstein and Schwanheim. The trail offers panoramic views and passes large red sandstone formations. As its connecting descents are well signposted, the Rimbach-Steig can be walked in sections. Refreshment options include establishments in Schwanheim and the Wasgau Hütte Schwanheim.

Geographical location

In the regional context of Südwestpfalz, the cycling network comprises six themed routes totalling 400 kilometres, as well as numerous regional routes. The cycling routes of Südwestpfalz lead towards Saarland, Alsace, the North Palatinate, the German Wine Route and the Rhine Plain.

Rocks

Haselstein is a rocky reef between Oberschlettenbach and Darstein and offers a variety of climbing routes. Its west ridge offers climbing opportunities. The east ridge is more shaded; the rock there is less solid. The Wasgau Rock Trail connects the red sandstone formations Rödelstein, Haselstein, Löffelsberg and Buhlstein.

History

Lindelbrunn Castle Ruins are maintained by the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage of Rhineland-Palatinate and described as accessible for exploration. They can be reached by climbing from the hikers’ car park at the Cramerhaus via partially worn red sandstone steps. The complex was built in the 12th century as an imperial castle to defend Trifels.
