Contwig has a recreation area with a water playground consisting of two shell-shaped play islands. The second play island contains pumps, water steps, channels, stepping stones and rock motifs. Contwig’s recreation area also includes a barbecue area, a tennis facility and a kiosk.
The outdoor swimming pool has diving towers with heights of one, three and five metres. The swimming pool complex also includes an adventure pool for non-swimmers with a water slide, as well as a toddlers’ and babies’ pool with a mushroom fountain.
Culture
St. Laurentius Church was consecrated on 14 May 1906 and built in the neo-Gothic style. Craftsmen from Contwig carried out the earthworks, masonry, stonemasonry, carpentry and plastering work. The organ at St. Laurentius was built in 1932 and has 28 stops. A Lourdes grotto belonging to the parish of St. Laurentius was inaugurated on 26 May 1946.
Martin Luther Church was first mentioned as St. Thomas in 1272. The former St. Thomas parish church was incorporated into Hornbach Abbey in 1309. Martin Luther Church houses a historic Stumm organ from 1843, which is used for concerts. The Contwig stonemasons Jakob Schreiber and Jakob Stauch worked on the church’s altar and commemorative plaques.
The high altar of St. Laurentius was made by the sculptor Heinz Schiestl as a Gothic winged altar.
Trails
In Contwig, the Pirminius Cycle Route runs along the Schwarzbach on a well-developed cycle path. The Steinhauerweg trail in Contwig is 16.2 kilometres long and has 396 metres of elevation gain. Hahnberghütte has a barbecue area and a meadow play area.

In the Südwestpfalz region, marked trails lead through dense forests, over gentle hills and past colourful sandstone rock formations. Along the hiking trails, inns and restaurants serve traditional Palatinate cuisine.
