Simmern/Hunsrück: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Simmern, new and earlier city walks take visitors to buildings, exhibitions, and guided tours. The new Blue Path was completed in 2022 and explains the city’s history and culture. It was preceded by a cultural and historical city walk, which was established in 2005 with around 20 information stations.

Culture

Today’s St. Stephen’s Church was begun in 1486 under Duke Johann I, at a time when Simmern was developing into a princely residence. St. Anne’s Chapel houses the tomb monuments of the Dukes of Simmern, which are described as some of the most famous examples of Renaissance culture between Mainz and Trier.

The Schinderhannes Tower is a preserved part of Simmern’s medieval fortifications and one of the few remaining architectural witnesses to the former residential city. Since 1999, the Schinderhannes Tower in the center of Simmern has housed a permanent Schinderhannes exhibition. A guided city tour also leads to Schlossplatz, the bastion on Römerberg, the two churches, and the Schinderhannes Tower.

The Edgar Reitz Film House displays props, sets, costumes, and set photographs. In the oldest part of Simmern, the house presents film installations on the subject of Heimat. A guided tour of the Hunsrück Museum covers prehistory, natural history and geology, Hunsrück film, local and regional history, folklore, and the art collection of Friedrich Karl Ströher.

Nature

A guided circular hike through Simmern’s green recreational areas is approximately 9 kilometers long and begins and ends at Simmersee.
