Mörschbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Landscape
Mörschbach lies at the foot of the Soonwald in the Hunsrück and in predominantly agricultural surroundings. Hiking and cycling trails lead from Mörschbach into nearby forests. The Ausonius hiking trail is particularly notable among the hiking routes associated with the village.
Hiking and Cycling
The Hunsrück-Middle Rhine region has a dense network of certified premium trails, including the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig and the Rheinburgenweg. In the Rhine-Moselle triangle, the Hunsrück Railway can transport cyclists back from Boppard and Emmelshausen to the Hunsrück uplands.
History
Archaeological excavations indicate that a settlement already existed in the Mörschbach area around 500 BC. Finds from the Mörschbach region include coins and a glass urn from the time of Emperor Augustus. The first burial mound near the “old beech” is approximately 1.6 m high and has a diameter of 16 m. A bronze bird-head fibula dates the burial to the early Celtic period of the 5th century BC.
Another large burial mound on the border towards Ellern is approximately 30 m wide and 1.8 m high; locally, it is called the Hunnengrab. During an excavation at the castle mound in 1907, a section of wall was uncovered that may be the remains or foundation of a tower-like building.
Mörschbach’s church is described as having one of the oldest church towers in Rhineland-Palatinate. A document from 1006 established the Mörschbach parish district. The church stands above the village on a wooded hill. A Roman road led from Trier via Wahlbach, Mörschbach and Rheinböllen to the Rhine.
Local Character
Mörschbach’s bakehouse was renovated in 2005 and continues to produce baked goods on certain occasions.
