Henau: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Henau, the ruins of Koppenstein Castle are located within the municipal area. They preserve a 16-metre-high, pentagonal quartzite keep whose entrance was adapted into a viewing tower. A circular hiking trail along the Asbach leads to Koppenstein Castle.

Culture and History

Section walls and burial mounds are documented in Henau as archaeological features that can be visited. A quartzite section wall on the Koppensteiner Höhe has a longitudinal diameter of 125 metres. Three burial mounds lie on the eastern slope of the Gemündener Höhe, including one surrounded by a wall. Roman silver coins minted between AD 217 and 251 were found in the Winnheck, indicating the presence of Roman settlers.

Nature

Henau lies in the Soonwald on a south-facing slope that descends towards the Asbach, at an altitude of around 400 metres above sea level. The village is surrounded by forests and meadows. The Kellenbach is described as a winding, shady course to the Nahe between the Soonwald and the Lützelsoon. The Soonwaldsteig trail passes directly by Henau.

Leisure

The Asbachhütte is a leisure facility in Henau within the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park. It includes meadows, adjacent woodland and direct access to the Asbach. The hut can be rented for leisure activities and celebrations and offers opportunities for picnics, family camping and group outings. On site, there is a covered barbecue pavilion and a traditional swivel grill.

The site has electricity, water and parking spaces for tents and vehicles; however, there are no service connections or wastewater disposal facilities for camping vehicles. The Asbachhütte has level access.
