Compare hiking trails by length and difficulty

The moderately challenging Nette Nature Trail runs from Ochtendung via Ruitsch back to Ochtendung and is 10.3 kilometres long. The premium Nette-Romantikpfad Ochtendung walking trail is 7.6 kilometres long and complements the Traumpfade trails in the Rhein-Eifel-Mosel-Land. This makes the Nette-Romantikpfad the shorter of the two routes; the Nature Trail is also classified as moderately challenging. The different lengths give you a concrete point of reference when planning these hikes as part of your holiday.

Wernerseck Castle and local history

The ruins of Wernerseck Castle lie near Ochtendung, above the Nette, almost on the border between the Pellenz and Maifeld municipal associations in the Vordereifel. Archbishop Werner von Falkenstein began construction in 1401. Until the mid-16th century, the castle was the seat of the Electoral Trier district of Ochtendung. It is considered a landmark of Ochtendung and connects the history of the building with that of the district. A tour starting in Bassenheim leads to Ochtendung’s Old Railway Station; the station building has been renovated. Ochtendung has five playgrounds for children.

Karmelenberg is a wooded cinder cone formed by volcanic activity. The 372-metre-high summit is home to the Marienkapelle, the oldest Baroque chapel in the Koblenz area.
