The former Pettersheim water castle is part of the town’s history: it was first mentioned in official records in 1387, largely demolished between 1759 and 1768 under Christian IV, Duke of Palatinate-Zweibrücken, and replaced with a hunting lodge. Only individual converted parts of the former west wing have survived.

The excavated Villa Rustica has been preserved as the first open-air museum of its kind in the Palatinate. St. Michael is a sandstone church in the country-house style, consecrated on October 10, 1954. The disused quarry at Hühnerrech is a geo-ecotope with diverse small habitats along its rock terraces. The quarry offers visitors insights into the work of the “Wackepicker” and the site’s geological and historical features.

Hiking

Herschweiler-Pettersheim has eight designated hiking and walking trails. The HP3 Culinary Hiking Trail begins at the village square and follows the pedestrian and cycle path along the Ohmbach. It is 9.7 kilometers long.

Leisure and Community Life

The multi-generational area at the Ohmbach includes quiet areas, a stream, a sand play area and a water play area. The local Kerwe festival regularly takes place on the third weekend of September.

Travel by public transport is possible via train connections to Kusel or Homburg/Saar, followed by the Regiolinie 280 bus to Herschweiler-Pettersheim.
