Potzberg Wildlife Park is home to numerous animal species, including red deer, wild boar, moose, reindeer, bison, ibex, Arctic foxes, raccoons, Andean condors, eagles, falcons, owls and bearded vultures. Landscape
Föckelberg is located on the north-western slope of the Potzberg and offers views across the hilly landscape east of the village. The Potzberg summit, with its observation tower, is approximately 1 km as the crow flies and about 2 km by road.
The surrounding area of Föckelberg includes Bornberg, Nanstein Castle, Rothenbühl, Harzhöhe and Hühnerkopf. The Frauenburg castle ruins are located in the wider regional surroundings of Föckelberg. Obstpresse is also located in this wider regional area.
History
The Potzberg area around Föckelberg has a documented mercury-mining heritage. Numerous mercury mines were opened around the summit in the second half of the 18th century, attracting miners to the village.
Transport
Föckelberg is connected via the K 34 road. From the northern side of the village, the K 35 leads to the Potzberg summit. The motorway exits near Kusel and Glan-Münchweiler are each approximately 10 km away; at around 6 km away, Altenglan is the nearest railway station.
