The Historic Village Trail in Steinweiler is an easy 2.9-kilometre route with 8 metres of ascent and descent.
Along the way
At several stops, information boards explain the history of buildings and landmarks. The trail includes the former Catholic schoolhouse and the washing place on the Gailsbach, then continues to the Catholic parish house, St Martin's Church and the former tannery known as the Annahof. The Napoleon Column, erected in 1811 to mark the birth of Napoleon I's first son, is also located along the route. The Historic Village Trail is accessible at all times and can be reached by train and bus via Steinweiler railway stop.
The village mill on the Klingbach has been designated as a nesting site for storks.
Culture
The Protestant church preserves its pews, altar, pulpit and organ case in their original condition. In the Catholic St Martin's Church, the windows depict the Fourteen Holy Helpers; the church also contains a Baroque votive painting associated with Steinweiler's pilgrimage tradition. The Catholic St Martin's Church was first mentioned in a document from 982 and is described as one of the oldest churches in the Southern Palatinate.
