The Dünnbach-Pfad Dream Loop is a 10.4-kilometre premium hiking route that can be divided into two shorter loops of 5 and 6 kilometres. Near Lahr, panoramic views alternate with wooded sections along the route.

Hiking and Trails

The local map of Lahr shows walking and hiking trails through woodland and fields, as well as cycling tours that begin in Lahr. It also indicates a hiking route to Engelport Monastery. At the exit of Lahr in the direction of Zilshausen, the Tree and Shrub Trail offers a pavilion and a resting place for hikers on the Dünnbach Path.

The Dünnbach-Pfad is classified as moderately difficult; sure-footedness is required, and sturdy footwear is recommended. The route has been certified by the German Hiking Institute with 71 experience points.

Culture and History

The Catholic St Oranna village chapel stands in the centre of Lahr. It was built in 1784 to replace an older chapel and contains a medieval wooden altar as well as numerous wooden and sandstone figures. The site of the Oranna Chapel also includes a basalt wayside cross dated 1714.

Lahr's wayside shrine stands at the edge of the forest at the end of Mühlenallee in the direction of Mörsdorf. Every year, a procession to the wayside shrine takes place on the first Sunday after the Assumption of Mary. Visitors use the wayside shrine to light candles, pray or enjoy the tranquillity.

The Bleichbrunnen fountain is associated with a former local washing place where residents washed their clothes and spread them out to bleach in a nearby meadow.
