The green-marked ROK Tour “Scenic Views” is a separate route: the recommended direction starts at Rockenhausen Hiking Station and follows the arrows. At 687 metres, it is the highest elevation in the Palatinate. Two circular hiking routes differ in length and destination: the trail to Ludwig Tower is 6.7 kilometres long, starts at Haus Linn in Dannenfels and leads to the tower. The Wildenstein Castle Ruins circular trail is 7.9 kilometres long and leads to the ruins. Important for planning: Ludwig Tower is currently closed for renovation work.
The region’s history is also present in different ways. Falkenstein Castle Ruins stand on a former volcanic vent and were first mentioned in a document in 1135; the surrounding area provides the setting for the annual Christmas market and the Falkenstein summer tours. The Weiße Grube visitor mine offers a glimpse of 600 years of mining, including medieval mining areas and later mine workings excavated using explosives. The Palatinate Mining Museum in Imsbach explains the region’s ores, rocks and fossil fuels, as well as the extraction and processing of various metals.
