Göllheim between the local history museum and hiking trails
Accommodation in Göllheim
Göllheim combines local history with various ways to explore on foot. The local history museum, the last surviving fortification tower and two trails of distinctly different lengths each offer something different. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Göllheim, consider whether local culture, a short walk or a longer hike will shape your stay.

Local history at the Uhl’sches Haus and the Kerzenheimer Gate
The Uhl’sches Haus has been a local history museum since 1979 and showcases the history of Göllheim. A large diorama featuring many painted tin figures and an audio station illustrate the battle. Visitors can also try on a helmet and sword. This allows the museum to bring history to life with vivid details rather than presenting local history through text alone.
The Ulrich Tower is Göllheim’s last surviving fortification tower. As a surviving relic of the former fortifications, it offers a different way to explore the town’s history than the exhibition at the Uhl’sches Haus. The Kerzenheimer Gate also serves a cultural purpose: its rooms host art exhibitions as the “Little Gallery in the Kerzenheimer Gate” during the Göllheim markets in May and October and the Torbogenfest in August. These exhibition opportunities are tied to the events mentioned; dates and programs may vary.
Hiking trails of different lengths
The accessible Dachsi hiking trail is an approximately 2 km circular route in Göllheim. Its gradient, width, surface and information facilities are suitable for all age groups. For a longer hike, the 17 km Adolf von Nassau hiking trail starts at the Königskreuz in Göllheim.
The Dachsberg Geopark lies northwest of Göllheim. Its 1.7 km circular route passes 17 stations covering geology and the history of the Earth, flora and fauna, as well as the Dyckerhoff company and the cement plant in Göllheim. Seating invites visitors to linger, and the grounds are freely accessible. Alongside Göllheim’s hiking trails, this offers another circular walk nearby, with stations that combine nature topics and industrial history.
More to discover in the wider Donnersbergkreis destination
The wider Donnersbergkreis destination offers additional landscapes and hiking opportunities. At 687 metres, the Donnersberg is the highest elevation in the Palatinate. It is almost entirely forested and stretches diagonally for up to 7.5 kilometres. The Palatinate Heights Trail begins in Winnweiler, at the Donnersberg, and runs in seven stages through the Palatinate Highlands to Wolfstein. These facts describe regional destinations with different starting points and a larger route scale than the circular trail in Göllheim.
At the Eiswoog, you can combine boating, water treading, swimming and walks around the lake with a nature trail. A paved, accessible path there passes an observation platform overlooking the lake. The Stumpfwaldbahn offers a different experience: it runs along a narrow-gauge line of approximately 4 kilometres, with passengers able to board at the Eiswoog, at Bockbachtal station near Kleehof or at Ramsen West. If you’re planning a trip, it’s a good idea to check the current timetable.
Choose your accommodation based on your planned excursions
When looking for a holiday apartment in Göllheim, it’s worth first considering which excursions matter most to you: if the Uhl’sches Haus, the Ulrich Tower and the starting point of the Adolf von Nassau hiking trail are your priorities, look for accommodation in town. If, on the other hand, you want to include various destinations across the wider Donnersbergkreis, bear in mind that each has its own starting point. This keeps your accommodation choice focused on the activities you actually have planned, without making assumptions about distances or travel times.
