Culture

Sommernachtsraum is an open-air art exhibition in the park-like garden of Dorothea Kirsch in Gillenbeuren. The trees in the garden serve as presentation spaces for artists. The exhibition has been held for more than 20 years; works displayed there for visitors have also included almost life-size wooden sculptures.

Nature and Trails

The Erdenbach rises in Gillenbeuren and flows into the Ueßbach near Bad Bertrich. The HeimatSpur Weiherbachtal Circular Trail runs through the surrounding area as an easy 8.2-kilometre circular route. The trail follows the Weiherbach and Erdenbach valleys to a viewpoint overlooking Lutzerath, the volcanic Eifel and the Moselle heights. The listed highlights of the route are the Weiherbach Valley, Erdenbach Valley and Spanik Viewpoint.

The Eifel Camino also passes through this area. The fourth stage from Kaisersesch to Lutzerath is 19.9 kilometres long, takes about 4 hours 51 minutes and is classified as easy. On this stage, the route heads south from Alflen through meadows and fields towards Gillenbeuren before continuing to Driesch.

Cycling

Gillenbeuren is listed as one of the stage locations on the Vulkaneifel Challenge road cycling route. The Vulkaneifel Challenge is a demanding road cycling tour of almost 133 kilometres with more than 2,100 metres of elevation gain. It combines challenging climbs with quieter sections and roads with little traffic.
