Neef: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the fountain square on the banks of the Moselle, several circular hiking trails start in Neef: the 14.2 km-long N1 route, the 10.3 km-long N2 route, the 10 km-long N3 route, the 8.6 km-long N4 route, as well as a 6.5 km-long themed route focusing on cultural monuments and biodiversity.

Hiking and Cycling

The Moselle Way stage towns of Neef and Ediger-Eller can be reached by train via the RB-81 line. The 16th stage of the Moselle Way leads over the Petersberg and past the Petersberg Chapel before descending to Neef via vineyard paths or two steep stairways. In Neef, there are numerous well-developed cycling and hiking trails for exploring the Moselle landscape.

The Zell Panoramic Moselle Cycle Tour passes through Neef. Along the way, cyclists cross the bridge near Neef to St. Aldegund and then continue via Alf and Kaimt towards Zell. The Calmont via ferrata lies opposite Neef and is described as a route with an alpine character.

Culture and History

The altarpiece in the Petersberg Chapel is a work of the late Renaissance from the mid-17th century. The Petersberg Chapel on the 16th Moselle Way stage is described as dating from the 11th century. Archaeological finds on the Petersberg are presented as evidence of a Gallo-Roman temple site.

Settlement remains dating from the Urnfield culture of the 8th to 7th century BC were found in the centre of Neef. The historic village tour in Neef presents historically significant remains and remarkable medieval buildings. Neef’s present-day St. Matthias Church was consecrated in 1891.

Following a donation in 623, Neef supplied St. Arnulf in Metz with wine for 500 years. Cultural events take place in the Stuben monastery ruins near Neef, including jazz concerts, choral performances and guided tours.

Nature and Landscape

The Neefer Petersberg is described on the Moselle Way route as a biodiversity highlight. The Eulenköpfchen viewpoint is located on the Petersberg above Neef and offers panoramic views over the entire Moselle loop and Europe’s steepest vineyards. The Petersberg is described as the only used hilltop cemetery on the Moselle.

The Petersberg ridge is described as being surrounded by the Moselle and as one of the scenic highlights of the Moselle Valley.
