Culture

The Church of the Assumption of Mary is part of the village’s history: its nave was built in 1761/1762. The Romanesque church tower is described as the oldest surviving testimony to Blankenrath’s history. It is 33 metres high, has an octagonal, pyramid-shaped roof and is crowned by a gilded rooster. The Lourdes Grotto was built in 1974 and serves as a place of prayer visited by people from the surrounding area. The path to the Lourdes Grotto includes 14 Stations of the Cross made of bronze plaques mounted on basalt columns. When the Church of the Assumption of Mary was renovated in 1975, the altar area was redesigned with a Tree of Life motif.

Different eras are also reflected in the village centre: half-timbered houses and villas from the 18th to the early 20th century stand there.

Nature

The Flaumbachtal Pond lies on the eastern edge of Blankenrath and is integrated into the surrounding landscape. Benches around the pond provide places to rest and observe ducks and fish.

Hiking

The Kirchspiel hiking trail opened in 2010. It connects Blankenrath with Reidenhausen, Haserich, Panzweiler, Walhausen, Schauren and Hesweiler. The trail is an approximately 20-kilometre circular route from the parish church in Blankenrath to chapels in neighbouring villages. It also offers twelve shorter sections between 2 and 20 kilometres.

Short, easy trails from Blankenrath lead towards the Hanosiusmühle Chapel or the Flaumbachtal Pond and are usually 4 to 7 kilometres long. Two stages of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig also connect directly with Blankenrath.

Cycling

Forest and meadow paths in and around Blankenrath offer a variety of tours, from relaxing outings to more physically demanding routes.
