The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail leads directly past Sensweiler. The Köhlerpfad trail along the Steinbach and the Zwischen den Wäldern hiking trail also pass through the village.

Hiking and Cycling

Sensweiler is described as a starting point for cycling tours; due to the many climbs, an e-bike is recommended. From Sensweiler, Erbeskopf, Idar-Oberstein, Herrstein, Birkenfeld and Morbach can be reached on partly signposted routes that run along numerous forest and field paths and only a few roads.

Stage 2 of the National Park Cycling Route runs via Wirschweiler and Sensweiler towards Mörschied. It is described as a route for sporty e-bike riders and covers 68.0 kilometres with 980 metres of elevation gain.

Culture

The Protestant church is considered one of the oldest in the surrounding area. Its small bell is one of the oldest preserved bells in Germany. The smallest of the three bells is estimated to date from the beginning of the 13th century, possibly from a period before 1200. Its inscription was formed by hand using wax threads rather than stencils. Four stone heads were discovered beneath the plaster on the exterior wall.

The church has an old chancel tower with two Romanesque windows, a small Romanesque entrance door, a Gothic sacrament niche and a quadripartite rib vault. The middle section of the church tower may have served as a fortified tower.

Nature and Culture

The accessible Köhler-Liesel National Park Family Tour begins and ends at the foot of the Usarkopf and the wooded Idar Forest ridge. Eight stations along the tour cover nature and culture around Langweiler and Sensweiler. They include stations on charcoal production and Hunsrück gemstones, a rest area with a barbecue hut and an insect house. The tour also includes a biodiversity garden, a view of the Steinbach Reservoir, and a fruit meadow and insect quiz.
