Schwollen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Around 200 hectares of forest belong to the municipality of Schwollen, which is situated in the elevated Hunsrück landscape. Well-signposted paths are suitable for short walks and longer hikes; jogging, hiking and cycling are also possible on the signposted routes. The nearby winter sports centre on the Erbeskopf offers a range of winter sports activities.

Nature

In good weather, the Hattgenstein observation tower offers views towards the Erbeskopf, Idarkopf, Donnersberg and Saarland. The Zauberwald nature trail includes a barefoot path, a scent organ and a sound station. The Kirschweiler Fortress is a natural rock labyrinth made of Taunus quartzite.

Local life

Schwollen has a bakery with an additional range of groceries and the local country inn, Böß.

The Brunnenfest brings together the local mineral water businesses and the village's Sauerbrunnen spring. The festival lasts several days and takes place in the village square and the community hall; it also features homemade cakes prepared by women from Schwollen.

At the Christmas market, wooden huts and Christmas goods are used.

Culture and History

The Götterallee/Sironaweg is a 2.5-kilometre route between Leisel and Schwollen. Sculptures of Roman deities stand along the route; it also passes the Heiligenbösch Church, a former pilgrimage church and present-day parish church built on the ruins of an extensive ancient villa complex.

The Roman tomb of Siesbach dates from around AD 175 and can be reached on foot from Schwollen via Kirschweiler Straße.
