Culture

The parish church of St. Anna in Neuenkirchen was built between 1896 and 1899 in the Neo-Romanesque style. Villa Hecking is listed as a protected historic villa, is more than 200 years old, and was built as the residence of the Hecking textile manufacturing family.

The park at Villa Hecking is suitable for walks; musical brunches and open-air performances take place there. The sculptures in the park were created by the artist Otmar Alt.

The local heritage house was opened as a local history museum in 2001 and presents traditional crafts and rural life. Its permanent exhibition displays finds thousands of years old from limestone and gravel pits around Neuenkirchen.

A concept for a new local heritage house in Haus Temmen at Alphons-Hecking-Platz in Neuenkirchen is associated with the local heritage society.

Nature

Offlumer See is a former gravel pit that was developed into a recreational area; large sections were left to develop naturally. A circular hiking trail around Offlumer See takes about one and a half hours and offers opportunities to observe the flora and fauna.

Neuenkirchen's natural outdoor swimming pool comprises a natural lake and a beach.

Cycling

The RadBahn Münsterland runs through Neuenkirchen along a former railway line between Coesfeld and Rheine. The Triangel is a cycling link approximately 62 kilometres long that connects the town centres of Metelen, Neuenkirchen, Ochtrup, Rheine, Steinfurt and Wettringen.

The 36-kilometre Lerchenroute is a NaTourismus cycling route in the northern Steinfurter Land region and leads through fields, poppies and waterscapes.

For local visitor information and cultural services, Neuenkirchen has the KURTI office at Hauptstraße 36. Its remit covers culture, entertainment, regional topics, tourism and information.

More local pages: Altenberge, Hörstel, Hopsten, Lengerich, Tecklenburg, Greven, Laer, Rheine.
