Cycling and Trails

Around 25 kilometres of the EmsRadweg cycle route run through the municipality of Greven. In Greven’s floodplain and park landscape, there is a dense, well-signposted network of cycle paths suitable for one- and multi-day tours.

The 2.5-kilometre-long Emsdeich Sculpture Trail also runs between Greven’s Ems bridges.

Nature

Signposted hiking trails in the protected Bockholter Berge area lead through oak and pine forests in a sandy dune and heath landscape.

The Emsaue is Greven’s largest nature reserve and provides food and breeding habitat for numerous animal and bird species, including species requiring special protection.

Water

Canoe trips between Telgte and Greven follow a largely natural section of the Ems through floodplains, fields, meadows and forests.

Culture

Hoek is Greven’s oldest preserved district. It developed as an extension of the settlement in the 17th century and retains typical houses of farming citizens.

The Sachsenhof open-air museum in Greven-Pentrup reconstructs a 1,200-year-old early medieval Saxon farm. It features cultivation trials with crops from that period and arable weeds. The Sachsenhof open-air museum is open to visitors at all times; admission is free.

On the outskirts of Gimbte, the Averkamp Museum Farm houses a collection of historic equipment and tools and provides insights into rural life in the past.

The Grevener Baumwollspinnerei (GBS) cultural centre has a renovated bale warehouse and houses a music school, an adult education centre and a youth café on the former mill site.

The Kunstturm houses the art association; exhibitions are regularly presented there.
