Nature and Trails
The Großen Sloopsteine are the starting point for the premium Sloopsteener Seerunde hiking trail. The loop circles Niedrighaussee along idyllic paths beside the lake and ends with expansive views between the forest edge and meadows. The route also includes a natural beach where hikers can take a break by the water. The Sloopsteener Seerunde can be reached by public transport.
Cycling
The Lotter Acht, a 52-kilometer cycling loop, passes through all districts of Lotte. It can be completed in one day or in two stages. The designated starting points are the Rathausplatz in Wersen and Haus Hehwerth in Alt-Lotte; you can also start anywhere along the route.
Culture and History
The Große Sloopsteine megalithic tomb in Wersen dates from the Funnelbeaker culture around 3000 BC. It is described as the best-preserved megalithic tomb in Westphalia. The Großen Sloopsteene megalithic site is located in a 1.5-hectare open woodland, which was designated a nature reserve in 1938.
Mühle Bohle is more than 300 years old, a listed mill in Wersen, and recognized as an extracurricular place of learning. The tower of the Evangelical Church of Lotte leans westward. The Alte Zollamt Lotte is a listed former customs building dating from around 1830 and documents the former border between Prussian Westphalia and the Kingdom of Hanover.
An LWL VR app allows visitors to view the Großen Sloopsteene virtually and follow how the tombstones are moved back to their original positions.
Getting There
Lotte can be reached by road via the Osnabrück-Hafen exit on the A1 or the Lotte exit on the A30. The nearest railway station is Lotte-Halen on the Oldenburg–Osnabrück railway line, approximately 8 kilometers from Lotte town center.
