Kierspe is a small town in the Märkischer Kreis district in the southern part of Westphalia. Its district of Rönsahl borders the Rhineland.
Landscape
Kierspe is located in the diverse landscape of the Ebbegebirge Nature Park and is surrounded by reservoirs. Wienhagen is located near Kierspe. Kälberberg, Moos-Berg and Rothenstein are situated in the surrounding area. The wider regional area around Kierspe is also home to Altena Castle and Haus Bamenohl.
History and Culture
Kierspe and Rönsahl both have more than a thousand years of history. Kierspe is home to the Bakelite Museum, which is described as unique in Germany and displays several thousand exhibits in a changing exhibition.
From around 1930, the region comprising Kierspe, Lüdenscheid and Schalksmühle developed into a western center of expertise for the metal and electrical industries. During this period, Kierspe had 36 companies with more than 450 plastic presses.
