Walking trails with different routes

The green walking trail is about 11 kilometres long and leads from the village square past the Möllenkamp development towards Scheerhorn. The red walking trail is about 6 kilometres long and runs from the village square along Molkereistraße to Bathorner Diek. This lets you weigh up the preferred distance and route: the shorter trail follows Molkereistraße to Bathorner Diek, while the longer one runs past the Möllenkamp development towards Scheerhorn.

The walking trails designated by the local heritage association in and around Hoogstede can also be cycled. If the exact route is important for your plans, check the local signage. You can then choose between the described routes based on whether you prefer to walk or plan to go by bike.

Church, peace oaks and special occasions

The Catholic Church of St Boniface is a brick building in the round-arch style, dating from 1859. Its architectural style and date provide a tangible link to Hoogstede’s local history. Another historical trace can be found along Schwarzen Weg, where three peace oaks were planted in 1913. Together, these places show different facets of history: a church building and a planting associated with a specific year.

At the Hoagsteeder Familiengoarn, you can plant a tree to mark a personal occasion or simply without any special occasion. The annual date may change, so take this into account when planning. Other regional highlights include the Bronze Age Farmstead in Uelsen and Nordhorn Zoo. The Bronze Age Farmstead is a reconstructed prehistoric farmstead that offers insights into the lives of people in the Bronze Age at Riedberg. The zoo covers 12 hectares and is home to more than 2,500 animals from 100 different species. Many enclosures are designed to be entered, including two petting zoos.
