Weyhausen combines an independent local history with a varied landscape. Weyhausen was first mentioned in official records under the name Weydehusen. After the village burned down completely in 1350, it was rebuilt at its original location; the typical circular village has been completely preserved.

Culture

Originally, Weyhausen belonged to the possessions of the House of Welf. Urn finds in the village are estimated to be about 2,500 years old. The Church of the Resurrection in Weyhausen was inaugurated in 1962. Inside is the oversized wooden sculpture „The Risen Christ“ by Kurt Lettow. Music is a notable feature of many church services in the Weyhausen parish.

Nature

The Aller flows through Weyhausen in many meanders. The Gifhorn district combines heathland, forests, moors, rivers and lakes with the Drömling UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Allertal protected area lies entirely within the FFH area „Aller (with Barnbruch), lower Leine, lower Oker“ and is located east of the Elbe Lateral Canal within the Barnbruch Special Protection Area.

Hiking trails in the wider Südheide area lead through heathland, meadows, fields and forests. Their inclines are gentle and suitable for less experienced hikers. A fishing stretch on the Allerkanal runs from the old B248 bridge in the Weyhausen area to the canal's mouth near Brenneckenbrück.

Cycling

The cycling options in the wider regional area include themed routes, themed trails and nature trails, many of which are suitable for cycling. The regional cycling brochure lists 14 signposted bike tours and provides downloadable GPX tracks. The wider Südheide region is predominantly flat, and many destinations can easily be reached by bicycle.

The Gifhorn district has a signposted system of around 400 numbered cycling junctions that can be used to plan individual routes. The regional cycling junction system offers signposted destinations and route guidance without requiring maps.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Weyhausen can also include the following destinations for a broader comparison of locations: Brechtorf, Meinersen, Leiferde, Behren, Dedelstorf, Rühen, Wilsche, Sassenburg.
