The Drömling nature trail begins and ends east of Rühen. The walking route is 6.71 kilometers long, classified as “very easy,” and designed as a circular trail; parking is available for the nature trail. Seven stations explain the transformation from natural landscape to cultural landscape.
The Drömling circular trail starts and ends at Oebisfelder Str. 100 in Rühen. It crosses the southern and northern Drömling. In the Lower Saxony part of the Drömling, it passes through numerous nature reserves. The municipality’s official map can display cycling and hiking routes for navigation.
Rühen developed in the 12th century as a Wendish circular village. A clearly recognizable circular-village structure has been preserved in the south of Rühen. Historically, the Drömling served the farmers of Rühen as a source of timber and pastureland.
After the Second World War, Rühen served as a border checkpoint and customs port for freight traffic through the GDR to Berlin until German reunification. Willow branches were harvested as weaving material for baskets and carrying baskets.
