Today’s Leezdorf Mill is a two-storey gallery Dutch windmill built in 1896/97. The mill houses the “Oll bruukdom” exhibition room. There is also a tearoom in its former storage room.
The restored Bartlingsche Mill is still operational and has wind, electric motor and diesel motor drives. For restoring the mill, the Leezdorf local heritage association received third prize for outstanding heritage conservation work in Weser-Ems.
There is a large market square in the town centre, where village and mill festivals are held regularly. Another special feature is the Schittenhelm garden centre in Leezdorf. It offers themed gardens such as the Fairy Garden, Bamboo Grove and Woodland Garden for strolling and exploring.
Leezdorf developed as a dispersed settlement. This settlement structure is still visible in the townscape today and shapes the spatial character of the locality.
The “Peat Canals and Towing Paths” cycle route passes the Leezdorf Mill. From there, it continues towards Hage and Lütetsburg, passing small farms, fields and pastureland.
The 29.1-kilometre circular tour “To the Likedeelers” runs from Marienhafe through Leezdorf, Hage and Norden, and then back to Marienhafe.
In the wider regional area, there is the 73-kilometre Störtebekerland Cultural Route. The exploratory tour leads through varied landscapes and to castles and cultural attractions in the wider Störtebekerland region.
The combination of distinctive mill history, visible dispersed settlement structure and signposted cycle routes reflects the public character of Leezdorf.
