Cycling routes through Hoheneiche and historic farmsteads in Reichensachsen give a trip to Wehretal different points of focus. The R 5 offers an opportunity to spend days cycling; the streetscapes in Reichensachsen tell the story of a long architectural history, and flour for home use can still be bought at the Mittelmühle.

Cycling Routes and Hiking Trail in Hoheneiche

The 220-kilometre Hessian long-distance cycle route R 5 runs right through Hoheneiche. The Herkules-Wartburg cycle route also passes through the village. At the northern edge of Hoheneiche, both meet the Meißner cycling circuit. This connects several named cycling routes with a specific point in the village.

The Höhenwanderstrecke Durch die Langen Hessen offers a different perspective: it runs directly past Hoheneiche and follows the medieval trade route from Frankfurt to Leipzig. Long-distance cycle routes through the village and a hiking trail along this historic route offer different options for planning your day.

Farmsteads and Mill in Reichensachsen

Along the country road in Reichensachsen, distinctive 18th-century farmsteads shape the streetscape. Steinweg, which runs roughly parallel to the country road, is more densely built up and older at its core. Here, the impression is defined by small-scale farmsteads with houses whose gable ends face the street. A gable end is the triangular end wall of a house facing the street. At the northern end of Steingasse, there is also a well-preserved group of houses dating from the 17th century.

The Mittelmühle in Reichensachsen is still operating; flour for home use can still be bought there. If you plan to buy some, check in advance whether it is currently available for sale.

Tailor Your Stay

When choosing a holiday apartment, it can help to consider which plans are most important to you. If cycling tours and the Höhenwanderstrecke are your main priorities, look for a location that suits those plans. If you are interested in the farmsteads and buying flour, the places mentioned in Reichensachsen are useful points of reference. For more experiences, it is also worth considering the Werra-Meißner district as a wider regional setting.

The timing of seasonal phenomena can vary from year to year.

The Werra-Meißner district has a dense network of certified premium trails, as well as the Werra-Burgen-Steig Hessen.
