The P17 Waldkappeler Berge premium hiking trail leads from Waldkappel up to the heights of the Waldkappel Mountains. Two other specific viewpoints are the Pionierturm on Mäuseberg at 415 metres and the Ziegenküppel observation tower at 445 metres; both towers are freely accessible. This gives you named destinations at different elevations to consider when planning your trip.
The Herkules-Wartburg cycle route offers a different way to explore the area. It runs along the Wehre through Waldkappel and Wehretal, across the Ringgau and on to Thuringia near Ifta. The premium trail climbs into the hills, while the cycle route takes in a succession of places and landscapes. In Bischhausen, a district of Waldkappel, a history trail adds another option, leading through the history of the village. These three activities offer different focal points, without requiring you to choose just one way to explore.

From a tourism perspective, the Werra-Meißner district is part of the Frau-Holle-Land Geo-Nature Park. The landscape between the Werra Valley, Hoher Meißner and Kaufunger Forest features varied terrain, geological diversity, and a rich variety of flora and fauna. Hoher Meißner is the highest mountain in the region and is considered the home of Frau Holle. Seasonal sights change throughout the Geo-Nature Park. These include cherry blossom in the Witzenhausen cherry region, orchid blossom, pink poppy fields in Germerode and Grandenborn, Frau Holle’s flower meadows, autumn foliage and winter sports on Hoher Meißner. The wider Werra-Meißner district also offers a range of hiking options to plan around. The P1 Hoher Meißner premium hiking trail is rated difficult and is 13.7 kilometres long. Meißner also has a Nordic walking park with four routes between 6 and 12 kilometres long, starting at the Meißner Wildlife Park. The P1 has a specified length and difficulty rating, while the Nordic walking park offers four route lengths to choose from. Another regional option is the WerratalTherme in Bad Sooden-Allendorf. It has a wave pool, a sauna area with an integrated graduation tower and 32-degree saltwater. The facilities also include a Dead Sea salt grotto, a programme of classes and massages on request.
