The Beisetal information and forest nature trail runs between the Knüllwald districts of Niederbeisheim and Rengshausen, following the stream and passing through the forest. Its 14 stops explore nature, culture and the landscape of the Beisetal valley. Right beside a ford, the trail has a water play area with a water wheel and water pump. This route brings together scenic views and informative stops; seasonal conditions may affect use of the water play area.
The “Around Rommelsberg” Fable Trail offers a different landscape. It starts in the centre of Rengshausen and leads past meadows and fields into the forest. The Hutewald trail near Rengshausen, in turn, showcases the Knüll Nature Park’s old, gnarled trees. The routes therefore offer different experiences: open spaces and forest on the Fable Trail, old trees on the Hutewald trail, and a stream and information stops on the Beisetal trail.
Wallenstein: castle ruins, cycling church and swimming

For a longer-distance cycling itinerary, the Schwalm Cycle Route offers a different scale: it is around 100 kilometres long and runs mainly on paved or surfaced paths through river landscapes of meadows, fields, villages and half-timbered towns. The route reaches the point where the Schwalm flows into the Eder, just before Felsberg in the Schwalm-Eder district. Felsberg-Gensungen and Schwalmstadt-Treysa are possible rail arrival points for the cycle route; check the latest timetables when planning your journey.

The Malerstübchen Museum in Willingshausen explores the art history of the 19th and 20th centuries and displays paintings depicting traditional Schwalm costume. The rural crafts on display include whitework embroidery, knitting and spinning. Expert-led tours include talks about the artists’ colony and its artists, Schwalm customs and crafts. The Museum of the Schwalm in Schwalmstadt-Ziegenhain displays ceramics and pottery of the kind traditionally used in the region in a reconstructed pottery workshop. It also houses a large model of the Ziegenhain water fortress, showing its condition in 1761 after the bombardment during the Seven Years’ War.
