Hiking Trails with Different Starting Points
The three trails in Bad Zwesten’s Nordic walking park vary in length and difficulty. They are 4.4 km, 8.8 km and 12.5 km long; each starts and ends in the spa park by the spa house. This means you can take both the route length and the stated difficulty level into account when choosing a trail. The shared starting and finishing point makes the spa park a convenient reference point for these three tours.
Another option is the 7.5 km circular Löwenstein Castle Trail. It starts at the “Urfftal” hiking car park by the recreational pond complex in Bad Zwesten-Oberurff-Schiffelborn and has been certified as a “Wanderbares Deutschland – Traumtour” quality trail. Its starting point is therefore different from those of the trails that begin and end in the spa park. If you want to focus on a particular route, this one has a clearly stated length and a specific starting point.
Castle Ruins and Views
The ruins of Löwenstein Castle lie directly on the Kellerwaldsteig, a circular hiking trail around 160 km long that explores Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park. The ruins’ former defensive tower is 26 m high and can be climbed via a total of 82 steps. From the top, views stretch across Bad Zwesten, the Urff valley, Löwensteiner Grund and Schwalmpforte as far as the Knüll Mountains. A visit to the ruins thus includes a viewpoint overlooking several of the landscapes mentioned.
Games, Sounds and Trees in the Spa Park
The spa park by the spa house is more than just the start and finish of the Nordic walking park trails. It offers bocce and outdoor chess, as well as a sound experience trail with 12 installations and sound instruments that visitors can use to create sounds. The arboretum trail features 27 different tree species. If you want to combine different interests during your stay, the same park offers opportunities for exercise, games, sound experiences and observing nature.
Art and Archaeological Trails
On the outskirts of Bad Zwesten-Niederurff, in the direction of Neuental-Bischhausen, you’ll find the ART-GARTEN, a sculpture park and open-air exhibition space. The Archaeological Circular Trail offers a different way to explore history. It has 13 stops and is accessible from Bad Zwesten via the campsite. The ARS-NATURA circular hiking trail also has two access points: in the spa park by the spa house in Bad Zwesten, or at a hiking car park between the Bad Zwesten district of Wenzigerode and Bad Wildungen.
