The History of Technology and Art in Veckerhagen

The ironworks in Veckerhagen is now an industrial monument and was once a landgrave’s ironworks. In 1699, Denis Papin had the world’s first steam boiler cast there. This was his first practical step towards the piston steam engine. The story connects a specific place with an early stage in technological development.

The cable ferry connects Veckerhagen in Hesse with Hemeln in Lower Saxony, a district of Hann. Münden.
