Culture

The Mönchehof district of Espenau is home to the Mönchshaus. It was built in the 12th or 13th century as the main building of a grange belonging to the Cistercian monastery of Hardehausen near Warburg.

The Mönchshaus probably dates from around 1210 and was built in the Romanesque style. Its walls are partly more than one metre thick.
