Spaichingen: Alb Escarpment, Pilgrimage and Church Art

Spaichingen combines a distinctive landscape with a history of pilgrimage and special details in its church art. The route between Spaichingen and Gunningen runs along county road 5913 for about three kilometres; elsewhere, separate cycle paths or farm tracks are used. The summit of Dreifaltigkeitsberg became a pilgrimage site in 1415. In Spaichingen itself, the parish church of St Peter and Paul has an altar carved from a single piece of light-coloured Jurassic limestone. It is supported by twelve interconnected columns. Two dates mark its construction history: the foundation stone was laid on 24 April 1898, and the church was consecrated on 22 October 1900.

The nativity scene exhibition on Dreifaltigkeitsberg features more than 50 nativity scenes from three centuries and different parts of the world. Figures depicting the life of Jesus are also on display. The former, renovated pump house invites visitors to pause and reflect to meditative music. Together, these places offer a range of cultural highlights: the history of a pilgrimage site, the distinctive design of a church altar, and a diverse collection of nativity scenes.
