The Irndorf Rock Garden was created in 1997 and 1998 and is located close to Eichfelsen. Around 100 plant species can be discovered here without having to enter sensitive areas. The garden thus combines plant diversity with a mindful approach to fragile zones. Eichfelsen offers a very different highlight: the large limestone rock has cliff faces more than 70 metres high and affords a view into the breakthrough valley of the young Danube. The variety of plants and the striking rock faces offer two different perspectives on the natural surroundings of Irndorf.

Irndorfer Hardt: Plateau and Nature Conservation

Irndorfer Hardt covers around 103 hectares. Its nearly level karst plateau lies northwest of the village of Irndorf and is used as grassland. The area is an important nature reserve in the Freiburg administrative district, partly because of its species inventory, and has been part of the Upper Danube Nature Park since 1992. The seasons here cannot be read from the calendar alone: ground frost is possible at Irndorfer Hardt in every month of the year. The distances make it easier to choose: at 4.61 kilometres, No. 5 is the shortest circular route, while No. 1 is the longest at 16.56 kilometres. The Beuron Way of St. James also passes through Irndorf; its route runs from Nusplingen via Bärenthal and Irndorf to Beuron. Trail conditions can vary by season, so it’s worth checking them locally before setting out.

In winter, the countryside around Irndorf has cross-country ski trails prepared in advance for skiers of all ages. Snow and trail conditions can change; check conditions before your outing.
