Roman history and the town centre
The southern end of an approximately 81 km section of the Limes lies near Haghof. The route runs straight over hills and through valleys. Hikers can follow the Limes hiking trail, established by the Rems-Murr district, along the Limes and trace the footsteps of the Romans. The approximate length and varied terrain give this section a different character from a short walk through town.
There are also several historical points of interest in the town centre: The New Palace, also known as the Upper Palace, was built in 1602 and has been the seat of the municipal administration since 1986. The associated park is commonly known as the Palace Gardens. Together with St Stephen’s Church, the archway, the rectory and the village lime tree, it forms a central part of the town centre. St Stephen’s Church is an imposing Baroque church and also a village church.
You can also discover Alfdorf through its architectural and local history: the palace combines a specific construction date with its present-day function as the seat of the administration, while the church, park and other named places shape the town centre. Cross-country skiing and golf as active outings
Two details are useful for cross-country skiing: the 6 km trail 6 starts in Alfdorf-Rienharz and can be combined with the Leintal trail. Trail 2, “Leintal”, starts near Alfdorf-Döllenhof, where you can choose from loops of 3.5, 7 and 12 km. The trail lengths make it easier to choose a suitable loop for your day’s plans.
The Haghof Golf and Country Club offers another active option. Alongside the classic golf course, there is a short course with seven holes ranging from 65 to 245 metres. It is intended for families with children and people of all ages to try out; neither a golf proficiency certificate nor a large budget is required. This makes it different from the classic golf course and may interest travellers who would like to try golf for the first time.
