Eppingen’s old town is a tourist attraction with around 120 exposed half-timbered houses from different periods. A notable building is the “Alte Universität” (Old University): it is Eppingen’s largest and tallest half-timbered house and was built in 1494/95 in the style of a late-medieval merchant’s house.

For a shorter outing, try the Mühlbach Sandstone Trail: its second section was completed in November 2017. Ten artworks line the approximately 500-metre stretch through the green space within the town. The route combines a walk with artworks along the way. Hikes with a variety of destinations
The EP2 – Wander3Klang Eppingen hike takes you first via the Himmelsleiter (“Stairway to Heaven”). This impressive climb in Eppingen Forest has 202 steps and leads up to Baumannshütte. That number gives you a concrete idea of what to expect on this section of the trail. EP2 also includes a detour to the “Kraichgaublick” viewpoint. From there, the view extends over Eppingen, deep into the Kraichgau and as far as the Odenwald. A small wooden platform with benches invites you to rest or have a picnic.
Another option is EP4 – Stadtbahnwandern Eppingen-Sulzfeld. It starts at Eppingen railway station, passes numerous viewpoints on the way to the stonemasons’ village of Mühlbach, and continues to Ravensburg Castle and Sulzfeld railway station. The route therefore connects several different destinations. EP4 also continues to Jägersee, a lake surrounded by woodland at the foot of Ottilienberg; the Waldfühlpfad nature trail is located there too.
