Saint-Germain-Nuelles: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Germain-Nuelles combines distinctive cultural monuments with signposted paths through the surrounding area. The Croix du Mont is the only monument in Saint-Germain-Nuelles classified as a Monument historique. The Croix du Mont also features a sculptural representation of Bishop Germain dating from 1532.

Culture

The Saint-Rambert church stands in Nuelles. It is a Romanesque building whose existence is documented as early as 962. The upper part of its portal is attributed to the Flamboyant Gothic style of the 15th century. The Carrières de Glay offer a special combination of natural and cultural history: a visit provides insight into the history and techniques involved in extracting the yellow limestone typical of southern Beaujolais.

Nature

The Carrières de Glay are classified as an Espace Naturel Sensible because of their diverse flora and fauna and rare species, including bats and orchids. The Carrières de Glay are open to walkers all year round; a landscaped path with information panels leads around the site.

Cycling

The «Circuit VTT 54 – Les Carrières de Glay» is a 20.5 km loop with 457 metres of ascent. The route is signposted with VTT-FFC markings and the red number 54. It can be used freely all year round, and use is free of charge. Another cycle route, «Entre Bully et Saint Germain Nuelles», passes through Saint-Germain-Nuelles.

«V.T.T. Vélo Terroir et Territoire» in Saint-Germain-Nuelles offers opportunities to discover, learn and develop skills in various cycling and mountain biking activities. The programme also includes courses for individuals and groups of all levels.

Hiking

The «Circuit Les Carrières de Glay» route starts in the centre of Saint-Germain-Nuelles and leads to the Carrières de Glay. The «Entre vignes, lavoirs et croix de chemin» route is signposted with PDIPR signs and runs via Le Bourg, La Charrière, Le Bouchat, Le Bourg, Les Garines, the Lavoir du Suc, Les Grandes Terres, Les Fouillouses and La Charrière before returning to the church car park.

For children, the «Balade de Griz'loup à Saint-Germain» is designed as a family-friendly walking trail; downloadable questions are available along the route. The «Balade de Griz'loup à Nuelles» is a self-guided hike to discover the hamlet of Nuelles.
