Culture and History
The Mine de Verdy was discovered in 1890 and immediately exploited for the extraction of barite. For safety reasons, it is not open to the public. In 1990, the mine was designated a voluntary nature reserve after rare bat species had been discovered in its galleries.
The oldest part of the Château de Pollionnay is the main tower of the keep, which has been identified as the bell tower of a vanished Romanesque church. The Château de Pollionnay conveys the image of a rural aristocratic residence from the late Middle Ages in the Lyonnais region. The present-day Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Pollionnay was rebuilt in the 15th century.
The Chapelle Saint-André de Larny can be visited independently or in groups, either freely or with a guide.

The Crêts boisés de l’Ouest Lyonnais are designated as a Sensitive Natural Area.
Activities
Twelve hikes of varying lengths, walking times, and difficulty levels are available in Pollionnay. The “Promenons-nous dans les bois” route leads to the ridge and passes over the Croix du Ban and La Luère passes.
The Asinerie de la Framboisine offers half-day or full-day donkey hikes for visitors aged three and over. In suitable weather, it also offers guided meditation sessions with donkeys in nature for a maximum of five people.
The “Festival VTT des Monts du Lyonnais” takes place every year, includes a randuro, and also offers numerous activities for mountain bikers and families.
Pollionnay can be reached from Lyon by public transport: from Gorge de Loup, take line C24 to Craponne Centre, then the regular line 147 operated by Cars du Rhône towards Pollionnay.
