Quincié-en-Beaujolais combines châteaux and churches, permanently marked trails, the Landes du Beaujolais and a strong winemaking tradition. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Quincié-en-Beaujolais can include the village in their travel plans.
Culture and history
The present-day church of Quincié-en-Beaujolais was consecrated on 24 December 1864. The Château de Souzy is an 18th-century manor house built in 1765 and visible from the Three Châteaux hiking trail. Also visible from this hiking trail is the Château de La Palud, which is classified as a heritage site and dates from the 15th century. The Château de Varennes is a 16th-century manor house in the wine-growing region and is also visible from the Three Châteaux hiking trail.
Trails and walks
The Three Châteaux circular trails are permanently marked and comprise four routes of 7, 14, 23 or 26 km. The approximately 80 km-long Estelle Trail also passes through Quincié-en-Beaujolais.
The Quincié wine trail is a 4 km circular route along the vineyard slopes. Six stations and photographs provide information about the life of the vines and winegrowers. The Quincié wine trail is an easy walk with 150 metres of elevation gain and a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Nature and landscape
On the heights of Quincié-en-Beaujolais and neighbouring municipalities, the Landes du Beaujolais extend above the vineyards over almost 1,500 hectares; they are interspersed with woodland and dry grassland. The Landes du Beaujolais offer views of the Beaujolais vineyards, wooded mountains, the Saône plain and as far as the Alps.
Since 1985, the Landes du Beaujolais have been protected over 680 hectares as an Arrêté Préfectoral de Protection de Biotope (APPB), and since 1992 they have been classified as an “Espace naturel sensible”.
Wine and local character
Winemaking is the main activity in Quincié-en-Beaujolais. Brouilly, Côtes de Brouilly, Beaujolais Village and Primeur are produced in Quincié-en-Beaujolais. Wine production in Quincié-en-Beaujolais is divided between the cooperative winery and independent winegrowers.
After following the wine trail, you can enjoy a glass of Beaujolais-Villages in local cellars or at the Cave Beaujolaise de Quincié.
