Culture
The Musée du Fort presents the history of the Séré de Rivières fortifications, Lyon’s defence system, Fort de Bron and everyday life in military buildings. Construction of Fort de Bron lasted from the beginning of 1875 to the end of 1877; by the end of 1877, the fort was practically complete apart from later works. Fort de Bron is also the starting point for hikes.
At the Aéromusée de Bron, two rooms in Fort de Bron display photographs on the history of Bron airfield, works of art, medallions, busts, rare engravings, aircraft parts, mannequins, badge displays, cameras and measuring instruments. This is complemented by a reconstruction of the cockpit of a British bomber from the Second World War.
The Église Saint-Denis has stood at Place Curial since the Middle Ages. The present church has a Romanesque portal, a nave flanked by two aisles and an apse that is also Romanesque. Concerts are held there regularly, particularly on the occasion of the Fête de la Musique. The Ferme du Vinatier hosts exhibitions, concerts, conference debates and meetings.
Nature
The Parc du Vinatier is accessible during the Ferme du Vinatier’s opening hours: Tuesday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., as well as in the evenings or at weekends when events organised by the cultural department are taking place. Access is exclusively on foot via the main entrance at 95 Boulevard Pinel; vehicles are permitted within the hospital only with special authorisation. The park includes a fallow deer enclosure, farm animals, an orienteering board and a fitness trail.
The Parc de Parilly is a 159-hectare Espace Naturel Sensible extending across Bron and Vénissieux and serving recreation and sport. It has a permanent orienteering course with 70 control points and a total of 15 km of cycle paths.
Getting to the Parc de Parilly
The Parc de Parilly can be reached by Métro line D via the Parilly and Lyon Mermoz stations, tram line T2 via the Parilly-Université-Hippodrome stop, and bus lines C15, C17, C25, 39 and 93. C15 and C17 stop at rue du parc, Lionel Terray and bois de Parilly, C25 at Stade de Parilly and Berliet Vénissieux, line 39 at Clos Verger, and line 93 at Parilly Jean Zay, boulevard de Parilly, Mendès France and Parilly Université Hippodrome.
