Lyaud: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Vouas du Lyaud are several ponds that formed around 30,000 years ago as the Rhône Glacier melted. As a geosite, as an Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS) designated by the Haute-Savoie département, as a Type 1 natural area of ecological, faunal and floristic interest (ZNIEFF), and as a site included in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes geological heritage inventory, they are recognised in several categories.

Nature

Along the paths at the Vouas du Lyaud, visitors can discover carnivorous plants, dragonflies and grey herons. Mont d’Hermones is also one of the area’s scenic landmarks: to the north, it offers panoramas over the Lake Geneva basin and the Jura; to the east, views of the Dent d’Oche; and to the south and west, views of the Chablais mountain ranges.

There are hikes on Mont d’Hermones that are described as being without particular difficulty.

Trails

Along the Vouas du Lyaud interpretation trail, information panels explain how the Vouas were formed by the melting of the Rhône Glacier. A car park is available at the start of the interpretation trail.

The “À la découverte du village” circular route explores Lyaud through its cultural heritage. As part of this circular route, a viewpoint can be reached from the church, offering a panorama over Lake Geneva and the Jura range. The village circular route also leads to the site of the former mill.

Culture

Numerous small wooden grain stores can be seen along the roads of Lyaud. The Church of Saint Nicholas was built in Lyaud between 1859 and 1861, after the parish of Lyaud was separated from the parish of Armoy in 1844. It stands on the foundations of an earlier chapel dedicated to Saint Blaise. Inside, remains of the former Saint Blaise Chapel and a trefoil window are visible.

Cuisine

At the Feast of Saint Blaise, people in Lyaud enjoy puff-pastry rissoles filled with pears or maspin, the traditional Tarte à la bouillie, and pork specialities.
