Les Carroz-D'arâches: Trails, Culture and Grand Massif

Les Carroz-D'arâches offers ski-in/ski-out access to the Grand Massif. For visitors who want to combine mountain activities with trails, local history and specific age or time details, several experiences in different formats are available here.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Les Carroz-D'arâches, you can compare travel dates, room categories and cancellation policies on the respective offer pages. These details provide a clear framework for planning when hiking, culture, downhill cycling and access to the Grand Massif are to be considered together.

Nature and Trails

The “Disparition à la Mine” themed trail is 4 km long and features frescoes and puzzles. Its exploration begins in the Pas à l’Âne district, a 15-minute walk from the village centre, and continues to the hamlet of La Colonnaz and its small chapel.

The Alpage et Lac de l’Airon hike begins at the mountain station of the cable car. It is an easy family hike lasting 30 to 45 minutes, suitable for all age groups. The Alpage et Lac de l’Airon route offers a view of the Aravis Massif. At the mountain farm reached by the route, visitors can eat at the restaurant, fish for trout and buy cheese directly from the farm.

Different distances and time indications help organise the trails according to the desired daily rhythm; the themed design places a different emphasis from a route offering views and opportunities to stop for refreshments.

Activities

Les Carroz Bike Park has seven downhill tracks with a total length of more than 14 kilometres. The “Luge sur rail 4 saisons” in Les Carroz is accessible from the age of 4 and a height of 1.05 m when accompanied by an adult, and from the age of 9 and a height of 1.40 m alone or as an accompanying passenger.

Downhill tracks and the alpine coaster represent different types of activity; the Luge’s age requirements add a clear physical eligibility framework to the description of the tracks. This makes it possible to consider sporting activities and age-restricted use separately.

Culture

The Chapelle ronde de Ballancy was built in 1839 and repaired in 1984. The Eglise de la Frasse dates from 1787 and was consecrated in 1827. During the Rogation celebrations, the Chapelle de Ballancy, the oratory and the Eglise de la Frasse served as stations.

The construction dates, the repair and the use during the Rogation celebrations refer to different types of information; this keeps the sites readable both as individual buildings and in the context of these celebrations.

Getting There

Les Carroz can be reached via the A40 motorway and the Cluses exit. Getting there is therefore a separate planning consideration alongside the trails, activities and religious buildings mentioned on site.
