Brens: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Brens is described by the municipality of Bons-en-Chablais as one of the three founding municipalities of the area. Only a heavily altered residential building remains of the Château de Brens. The square layout of the castle, outlined by the ditches, and the bases of four round towers can still be identified on the site.
Renting a holiday apartment in Brens can be one possible part of personal travel planning.
Culture and History
In 1325, the Château de Brens was destroyed by troops of the Dauphin of Viennois, reinforced by troops of the Count of Geneva. The reconstructed Château de Brens was jointly acquired as co-owned property in 1569 by Louis de Sales, Seigneur de Montpiton and du Vuaz, and his brother François, Seigneur de Novel, de Boisy and de la Thuile. François was the father of Saint François de Sales.
The first religious building in Brens dates from 518–520 and was already dedicated to Saint Maurice. The current bell tower and nave of the Église Saint-Maurice were built between 1863 and 1868.
Cycling Routes
The 38.6-kilometre Annemasse–Thonon cycling route passes through Brens, where it branches off from the Tour des Voirons and the Circuit de la Vallée Verte. Brens is also a junction with the Circuit de la Vallée Verte, Route No. 28.
The Annemasse–Thonon cycling route runs through the Brens Forest and offers viewpoints over Lake Geneva. As part of the Haute-Savoie Vélo plan, it is signposted by the Haute-Savoie Department.
The Tour des Voirons cycle loop branches off in Brens from the Annemasse–Thonon-les-Bains route (No. 23). The Thonon–Annemasse cycling route also allows travellers returning by train to get off halfway in Bons-en-Chablais or Machilly.
Landscape
Saint François de Sales presumably stayed for three to five years at the Château de Brens in Chablais, from where he was able to admire the beauty of Lake Geneva.
