Culture and History
At the intersection of the R.N. 579 and the Chemin de la Rochette stands Vagnas’s Roman milestone pillar. It is listed as a Historic Monument; above it is an 18th-century cross.
The Grotte d’Ebbou dite de Chamas cave, classified as an archaeological site, is located in the municipality of Vagnas. The medieval museum “Le temps de Vagnas” displays medieval liturgical objects recovered during 17 years of excavations at the Saint-Pierre priory in Le Monastier.
The oldest houses in Vagnas, around Place Urbain-Thévenon, date from the 14th century. The Dolmen de Champagnac is evidence of the Neolithic period in Vagnas. The Château des Prieurs is located opposite Vagnas town hall.
Nature and Wildlife
The Parc Animalier des Gorges de l’Ardèche in Vagnas keeps aurochs in a naturalistic enclosure. The park showcases rare, ancient, endangered and reconstituted animal species, including Girgentana goats and Soay sheep.
