Saint-Julien-le-Roux: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
As a village set at a higher elevation, Saint-Julien-le-Roux overlooks the hilly landscapes typical of the Ardèche.
Anyone wishing to combine Saint-Julien-le-Roux, the “Autour de l’Ève” route and the Dunière gorges in one trip may wish to rent a holiday apartment there.
History
The church of Saint-Julien was destroyed by fire in February 1704. It was subsequently rebuilt with a square bell tower.
Nature and Hiking
The circular hike “Saint-Julien-le-Roux – Autour de l’Ève” is difficult, 21.4 kilometres long and has a stated duration of 6 hours and 30 minutes. It starts at the car park by the church in the village, crosses the “Vallée de l’Eyrieux et ses affluents” Natura 2000 site and offers panoramic views over the wild landscapes of the Vernoux plateau. The protected area is characterised by rivers, wetlands, forests, grasslands, dry grasslands, heathlands and riparian habitats.
Surroundings
The Dunière gorges can be explored via the winding RD231, which connects Vernoux-en-Vivarais and Dunière-sur-Eyrieux and offers several viewpoints over the gorges. Parking near the Dunière gorges is very difficult.
Experiences
During the “Goûter des animaux” activity at À la Bosse des ânes, children prepare food for the animals – donkeys, chickens, geese, ducks and a pig – feed it to them and then receive a sweet treat.
At Les Poneys de la Fontaine, Chloé, a qualified equestrian tourism guide, accompanies children aged 2 and over on 30-minute or one-hour pony rides.
À la Bosse des ânes also offers hikes with pack donkeys and, on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. from May to August, organises a convivial apéritif dinner by reservation, with a local drink as well as homemade savoury and sweet dishes.
