Villes-Sur-Auzon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Villes-sur-Auzon is a Provençal village at the foot of Mont Ventoux, with old fountains, lanes, squares and plane trees. At the same time, the village lies at the entrance to the Gorges de la Nesque. The summit of Mont Ventoux is 25 km by road from Villes-sur-Auzon; the actual climb is 18 km long and has an average gradient of 10%. The drive through the gorge to the Belvédère is 38 km long (round trip), climbs 400 metres and offers views down into the gorge.

Nature

The Sentier de découverte is a marked walking trail near the stadium. It passes through mountain vegetation and by traces of human activity in the landscape; information boards are positioned along the route. The Sentier des citernes can begin in the village and leads through a landscape of slopes and gorges, where numerous rainwater-fed cisterns can be discovered.

The Sentier des charbonnières begins about 8 km from Villes-sur-Auzon on the D1 road towards Sault. It leads to around twenty historic charcoal-burning sites with scenic views.

Culture

The Grand Portail is the only surviving gate of Villes-sur-Auzon’s former fortified enclosure and features a gable made of dressed stone. A tour with historical information boards explains the history of various neighbourhoods and how they have changed over the centuries. The village church bears the inscription “République Française”.

Activities

The Combe de l’Ermitage outdoor climbing area is located near Villes-sur-Auzon and is suitable for beginners as well as experienced climbers. It has 83 routes graded from 4c to 8a, spread across two sectors.

The Villes-sur-Auzon sports complex offers a football pitch, tennis courts, a skate park and a swimming pool; there is also a playground for children.

Agriculture

Villes-sur-Auzon lies in a landscape characterised by ochre-coloured soils, vineyards and cherry trees. Its agricultural profile includes cherries as well as table grapes and wine grapes; the grapes are marketed under AOC and AOP designations. The village lies at the centre of the production of AOC Ventoux wines and table grapes. Every year, these are celebrated on the terraces at the Muscat Grape Festival at the end of September.

Event

The Villes-sur-Auzon Jazz Festival was founded in 2005. In the edition described, three of the five evenings offered were free of charge and two required admission.
