Culture

The Fontaine St Marc consists of two interlocking fountains; the older one preserves an ornamental basin dating from 1819. The Fontaine « Tour Eiffel » is decorated with a stone representation of the Eiffel Tower, referring to the 1889 Paris World’s Fair.

The Chapelle St Marc dates from the 17th century and contains a polychrome altar and statues visible through its openwork door. The Eglise St Marc contains stained-glass windows from the André d’Aix en Provence workshop, including a choir window depicting Saint Mark, as well as seven paintings. The Eglise paroissiale Saint Marc is open during the day.

La Fabrique is a former industrial sugar refinery built between 1832 and 1835 by Marquis Joseph II de Palamède de Forbin.

History

The Château de Reine Laure is currently privately owned. The Château de la Reine Laure presumably began as a bastide built in the years following the repopulation of Villelaure in 1512 and was expanded into a château before 1563. The Château de la Reine Laure is described as a Renaissance château and is classified as a Monument historique.

The Tour de Ferrier on the grounds of La Ferme Hi Bride was an outpost of the Château d’Ansouis built for Ferrier de Saint-Chamas in the 12th century; at the end of the 15th century, the fortified structure was remodelled and later developed into a silkworm farm and a significant estate. La Ferme Hi Bride is a contemporary agritourism site combining land, architecture, art and hospitality.

Archaeology

The mosaic villa of La Tuilière is located on private property. Four large mosaic-decorated rooms from a concealed villa were discovered on the private La Tuilière property; based on the medallion motifs, the complex is dated to the 2nd or 3rd century AD.

In 2006, exploratory excavations conducted under the responsibility of INRAP de Nîmes confirmed the significance of the La Tuilière complex; a basin more than 26 metres long and another mosaic were also uncovered.

Festivals and wine

Villelaure’s votive festival is celebrated as the Fête de la Saint Marc. The Fête de la Saint-Marc was scheduled to take place from 1 to 3 May 2026 as a three-day festival with pétanque, parades, Olympiads, evening dances and fireworks. Held annually, La Foulée du Cèdre is a running event in Villelaure with 7- or 15-kilometre routes.

Domaine des Jardinettes welcomes visitors for tastings of its AOC Luberon wines and tours of the winery.
